The 2001 Topps Traded and Rookies Baseball set features a base set checklist of 265 cards, headlined by rookie cards of two of the biggest MLB superstars of the last decade – Albert Pujols and Ichiro. Additionally, the two future first ballot Hall of Famer's share a dual player rookie card in the set. However, it should be noted that in addition to the dual rookie card with Pujols, Ichiro only has a Topps Chrome rookie card in the set as his standard issue Topps rookie card was issued as part of 2001 Topps Baseball.

Of particular interest to collectors are Topps Chrome parallel rookie cards. Chrome parallels exist for the entire 265-card 2001 Topps Traded base set. Additionally, there is a 266th card which does not have a standard counterpart (Ichiro's RC). Only two Topps Chrome cards were inserted per pack versus eight of the standard issue cards, making them far more difficult to come by (and therefore more valuable).
